Amazon in 2014 had implemented an algorithm with the hopes of simplifying their recruiting process. This new hiring algorithm was meant to review a large number of resumes and spit out the top candidates. In 2015, it was clear the algorithm had faults when it seemed to favor male candidates for female. This meant female candidates were not being given the same opportunities, even if they were equally or more qualified than their male counterparts. Amazon covered themselves by stating they had at that point only looked at the candidates as recommendations but hadn't solely used the tool when hiring. Using algorithms such as this limits the people given opportunities such as obtaining a job at one of the largest companies in the world.
